Roskilde: Shantel, Extra Golden, La Shica, en Tumi and the Volume
Nog geen Nederlands persbericht door de ''spontane'' bekendmaking van Neil Young. Ik beloof deze komt nog wel uit deze week. Daarbij komt alles ook in de nieuwsbrief. Voor nu alvast het geheel in Engels!
The
Campbell Brothers, Extra Golden, La Shica, Shantel & Bucovina Club
Orkestar and Tumi and The Volume spice up the music programme.
This
Wednesday's announcement takes the audience from USA's Christian
environment, across South Africa's townships and on to East Europe's
gipsy sound. Roskilde Festival offers a wonderful musical fusion of Afro pop, hip hop, gospel blues, Balkan winds and alternative rock.
THE CAMPBELL BROTHERS (US) will transform Roskilde Festival into a swinging church service. The group consists of skilled musicians from a church called House of God. They play each other towards the boiling point with gospel rock and lots of "hallelujah."
EXTRA GOLDEN (US/KEN) builds a musical bridge across the Atlantic. Kenyan pop meets American indie-rock. The result is full of contradictions, but at the same time fascinatingly solid.
LA SHICA (E) plays flamenco that parts with tradition. With elements of hip hop, bossanova and jazz the band gives flamenco a facelift and a drum beat fit for the new millenium.
SHANTEL (DE) is the man who brought the Balkan beat into the European clubs where the sprouting wedding music is mixed with house and techno. With BUCOVINA CLUB ORKESTAR he fronts an eight man strong orchestra.
TUMI AND THE VOLUME (ZA) are great proof of South Africa's growing hip hop scene. Their music is much suited for live settings and should be checked out if you are into organic hip hop with elements of jazz, funk and reggae.
